Certification Testing For Construction

UK laboratory provides certification testing services for manufacturers of doors and windows for the construction industry

Test service provider, Element Materials Technology has returned to the exhibition circuit after having spent the pandemic period being limited to online demonstrations. To this end, it took part in this year’s “FIT” show, which took place at the Birmingham NEC during May.

During the three-day event, Element demonstrated the range of testing services it offers to door and window manufacturers. Visitors from the construction industry had the opportunity to engage with Element’s team of experts in professional industrial test services regarding a wide range of testing requirements, such as security, durability, weather, acoustics, smoke, fire and photogrammetry.

It is 25 years since Element’s BM TRADA section launched its ‘Q-Mark’ third-party certification scheme for construction products.

According to Leigh Hill, Divisional Director of Fire & Building Products at Element said that the FIT show was a good opportunity this year to discuss the changing landscape of testing and certification requirements within the industry with members of the door and window manufacturing community.

During the last 25 years, Element has been continually developing its services and its technical capabilities and has invested heavily in its UKAS-accredited laboratories to raise standards across the industry.

“We’re here to support manufacturers through changing regulations like UKCA marking and updates to Document L, to emerging issues such as supply chains impacting on product certifications, ensuring that they can continue to bring new products to market quickly and cost-effectively,” says Hill.

In addition to the 25th anniversary of the Q-Mark certification scheme launch, this year also marks 30 years since the introduction of the “Certifire” fire protection product certification scheme from Warringtonfire, also part of Element. Alongside these anniversaries, it is 50 years since Warringtonfire started conducting fire testing at its High Wycombe laboratory.

Element operates out of its flagship test laboratory in Wednesbury, Birmingham, where manufacturers’ are able to attend and witness door and window testing such as PAS24 security attack testing, weather testing and cycle testing.
